Is watering is a symptom of dry eye???

  2. Yes, watering is a symptom of dry eye. This seems a little counterintuitive at first … after all “why are the eyes so wet if they are so dry?”

The mechanism: when the eyes are too dry, they hurt. This causes reflexive tearing and you get watering. Then they dry out again. You go from too wet, to too dry, and back and forth.

The key is to “short circuit” this loop by keeping the eyes well lubricated with artificial tears.

thanks admin for confirming this dry eye -watering syndrome.when I diagnose patients who present with excessive tearing, of dry eyes, they give me a second glance ,wondering what has come over their doctor. I dnt get exonerated till I explain to them the physiology behind it.presently to avoid all the explanation, I just tell them “u’ve got xerosis “or”u’ve got xerophthalmia”
