What are potential causes of amblyopia?

Anything that makes a child favor an eye. This can be from anisometropia (the prescription between the eyes being very different), strabismus (the eyes are looking in different directions so the child suppresses one to avoid diplopia) and anything obstructing the vision such as congenital cataracts or a ptotic eyelid.
