vertex distance

This is the distance measured from the eye surface (the cornea) to the back of a glasses lens. This distance is different for everyone, but on average is about 1.4 centimeters.  This measurement can be important when choosing and fitting glasses frames (especially with strong glasses prescriptions). Vertex distance is also important when converting a glasses prescription to a contact lens prescription.
