Who has time for reading?
Your time is valuable … and you only have a small amount of time that you can sit in front of a computer for learning.
However, you probably have a lot more time when you could be “listening” to educational programs. That’s where this site comes in … you can listen to our free educational programming while you:
- Drive to Work
- Excercise at the gym
- Clean the House
The best part … most of our programs are accessible and completely free. You can stream them directly from this website or download the podcast mp3 versions to your phone or other mobile devices for when you’re running around. Talk about convenience … Eye Talk Radio is pretty awesome if you ask us!
As you can tell … this website is still under construction. The content and layout are still being created, but should be pretty cool. Over the next few months you should see:

Great resource! Thank you!
please tell me what this symptom means. my mother can look in the mirror with both eyes and she knows who it is, but if she covers one eye she is unable to recognize the person there. please help me
Barbara, it sounds like your mother has very poor vision in one eye. There are so many things that can cause this … there is no way to diagnose this online.
Please take your mother to an eye doctor right away so someone can figure out what’s wrong.
I am so glad to have been informed of this website. I am a third year medical student interested in ophtho and we don’t get any didactics in the field and so the internet is the best place for lectures and this is a gold mine of a resource. I am trying to find the audio flash cards and depending on the price may want to purchase them. where can I find those ?
Thanks
you refer to an “extras” section on the website in your book to answer the flash card review questions. i cannot find it there. what am i doing wrong? please help. thank you. thomas.
Thomas,
I’ve changed the layout/navigation for the website since I wrote ophthobook. You’ll find the extras here and the flashcard review questions here.

Hi Dr. Root very nice work congratulations! I was wondering if you could also talk about the charting like in a table or timeline form on how to keep track of the different diagnosis? is that something that is possible?

excellent …
Dr. Root, I recently visited an eye doc and had my eyes dilated. My right eye distance vision had changed from 2.25 to .75 He said it could be due to a cataract that made it change and I asked if he could see a cataract. He said no, but he wanted me to come back in a month to see if it stabilized or still changing. I was skeptical that he couldn’t see a cataract and seemed to be planning for surgery in the future. I would like your input on whether or not a cataract can be there without being visible to the doctor. thank you
Lynn: a big refractive shift like yours is often indicative of a cataract. It sounds like your doctor is doing the right thing … basically, not pushing you toward surgery and not over-stating your cataract “appearance.” The other possibility for a refractive shift is some kind retinal problem that is pushing your retina forward. Ask your doctor about your retina when you see them again.
Hi Dr Root, do you know when you will next be publishing new content to your website?
Dr. Root, I love all of your educational materials. I especially like these audio podcasts as I can listen to them while I walk my dog or go to the gym. I really wish there more!! Just wanted you to know that there’s demand and they’re very much appreciated. As an aspiring ophthalmologist, I truly thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Also, what happened to the audio flash cards? Would love to listen to those. Best, Jason — MS3
nice job , I am junior ophthalmologist
your material makes things easier for me
How can I get more radio topic?
Don’t know if you have covered this topic, but wanted to know if HSV dendrites can be seen with woods lamp or if these lesions can only be seen with slip lamp.
thanks
It’s a wonderful learning site. I learnt ophthalmology exclusively from your learning resources. I couldn’t pay by then but thanks to Tim Root for your free video lectures and book, that i am not only supporting myself but helping others. I will always be thankful to you. I have passed my exams just because of you and I am now earning quite a good sum to support many poor students. All the credit goes to you. Thanks once again Tim Root.
LOVE your retinoscopy videos!! I am studying for my COT and starting to work in a peds practice and retinoscopy has ALWAYS scarred me! You made it very easy to understand! THANK YOU
I would love updates!
Dr Root, I have really enjoyed your audio lecture about the eye anatomy. Am currently practicing as a refractionist and would be very happy to learn more about refractive errors and their corretions and how to treat amblyopia. Thanks.
Hi Dr.Root
