  1. As you can tell … this website is still under construction. The content and layout are still being created, but should be pretty cool. Over the next few months you should see:

    1. Several episodes of “Eye Basics 101”
    2. Pilot episode for “Two Eye Guys”
    3. Instructions for subscribing to the podcast versions

If you’d like to hear when this site goes live, you should sign up to my email newsletter here.

    Thank you for your patience!
    Tim Root

  6. Great resource! Thank you!

  7. please tell me what this symptom means. my mother can look in the mirror with both eyes and she knows who it is, but if she covers one eye she is unable to recognize the person there. please help me

  8. Barbara, it sounds like your mother has very poor vision in one eye. There are so many things that can cause this … there is no way to diagnose this online.

Please take your mother to an eye doctor right away so someone can figure out what’s wrong.

I am so glad to have been informed of this website. I am a third year medical student interested in ophtho and we don’t get any didactics in the field and so the internet is the best place for lectures and this is a gold mine of a resource. I am trying to find the audio flash cards and depending on the price may want to purchase them. where can I find those ?

    Thanks

  10. thomas silvetti says:

you refer to an “extras” section on the website in your book to answer the flash card review questions. i cannot find it there. what am i doing wrong? please help. thank you. thomas.

  11. Thomas,
I’ve changed the layout/navigation for the website since I wrote ophthobook. You’ll find the extras here and the flashcard review questions here.

  25. Lynn Lewman says:

Dr. Root, I recently visited an eye doc and had my eyes dilated. My right eye distance vision had changed from 2.25 to .75 He said it could be due to a cataract that made it change and I asked if he could see a cataract. He said no, but he wanted me to come back in a month to see if it stabilized or still changing. I was skeptical that he couldn’t see a cataract and seemed to be planning for surgery in the future. I would like your input on whether or not a cataract can be there without being visible to the doctor. thank you

  26. Lynn: a big refractive shift like yours is often indicative of a cataract. It sounds like your doctor is doing the right thing … basically, not pushing you toward surgery and not over-stating your cataract “appearance.” The other possibility for a refractive shift is some kind retinal problem that is pushing your retina forward. Ask your doctor about your retina when you see them again.

  27. Hi Dr Root, do you know when you will next be publishing new content to your website?

  28. Dr. Root, I love all of your educational materials. I especially like these audio podcasts as I can listen to them while I walk my dog or go to the gym. I really wish there more!! Just wanted you to know that there’s demand and they’re very much appreciated. As an aspiring ophthalmologist, I truly thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Also, what happened to the audio flash cards? Would love to listen to those. Best, Jason — MS3

    thanks

  32. It’s a wonderful learning site. I learnt ophthalmology exclusively from your learning resources.
