This photo shows a dellen (corneal thinning) that has been successfully treated with aggresive ointment lubrication. The prior day the cornea had thinned out to less than 40% thickness. Within 24 hours of treatment, the cornea is back to normal width, (though you can still see some residual haze). This illustrates the fact that the cornea matrix is not lost from this type of dessicated insult, but the stromal merely shrinks.
