What is the most common type of conjunctivitis in adults and children?

In adults, viral conjunctivitis is the most common type, accounting for over half of cases. In children, however, bacterial conjunctivitis may have a higher incidence. In general, you should probably less hesitant about using a topical antibiotic in children.
