What is anisometropia?

This is when the prescription between the eyes is very different. Anisometropia as a child can be a setup for amblyopia, as the child begins to favor one eye.

Large prescription differences can be a challenge when prescribing glasses. Lenses have an inherent ability to magnify or minify. A strong lens in one eye may shrink the image a little and make it ahrd for the wearer to fuse images properly. This magnification affect is minimized the closer the lens is to the eye surface, with contact lenses eliminating the problem.
