What four structures do we check on retinal exam?
With documenting retinal findings, the four main structures checked are the Macula, Vessels, Periphery, and Disk (optic nerve). The acronym I like to use is MVP-D. For example, you might write:
MVPD wnl ou
or
Macula: flat, good reflex
Vessels: mild attenuation
Periphery: flat, no tears or holes
Disk: pink, cup-to-disk ratio 0.3
What does “wnl” means? 🙂
wnl = within normal limits
I am wondering how to describe hemorrhage around retina, i.e., preretina, intraretina and subretina hemorrhage? And how to differentiate them? Thank you so much.
