fundus
This is another way of saying retina. The fundus describes the back portion of the retina that is visible using the eye microscope. For example, doctors use a “fundus camera” to take pictures of the retina. Fundus is a Latin term that means ‘bottom’ and is used to describe organ parts that look like the inside of a bowl. There is also a ‘fundus’ in the stomach, bladder, and in the uterus.
