Extra ophthalmology resources you might like!
Here are some additional eye resources you might enjoy:
Eye Basics Audio Course
A short podcast I began to review the basics of ophthalmology … there are only two episodes so far, but they are each an hour long and pretty darn awesome. Stream or download them and listen while you commute!
J. Lawton Smith’s Audio Course
The greatest resource for residents learning about neuroophthalmology. Doctor Smith is an ophthalmologist who recorded an entire audio course about neurologic eye disease. The series is fantastic, but only recommended for advanced residents (this is too complicated for a new student).
The download page is hard to find: after following the above link, click “enter the collection”, then click “Dr. Smith’s original outline.” You’ll find a list of lectures … you can download them by right-mouse clicking the links and choosing “Save Target As …”
Vitreoretinal Surgery Online
A pretty amazing cookbook of retinal pathology and procedures, with a no-nonsense arrangement similar to the Wills Manual. You have to register (easy and instant) to gain access to the videos, but totally worth it if you want advanced retina training!
Eye Abbreviations
There are a ton of abbreviations used in ophthalmology. Here is an exhaustive list we’ve compiled to decode your eye-notes.

This book is ideal for an iPod Touch or iPhone application. I’d pay up to $10 for this. With time, drawings could be accompanied with photographs of real cases thus making it more valuable.

Where are the board review questions? Also, not sure if you still manage the site, but organizing the flashcards either in a printable format or using an electronic format where you can skip to the next card would be better than continuously pressing the back button.

I stumbled upon your website after looking for the right educational site to encourage learning and to make ophthalmology fun for those that like it, but don’t love it as much as I do. I laughed, and shared your amazing teachings! How can you not get comfortable in learning from a blow up doll?!?! In serious setting of healthcare you bring a breath of fresh air and comfort in learning. Thank you and I hope too in the future I can make teaching & learning a fun experience. I love bringing the love when a lot of people bring the …yes serious but oh so funny. I works for us like minded scholars that thrive off the entertaining learning. When it resonates in awesome, it sticks and provides a comfortable experience. YOU BE THE MAN!! Thank again for making learning fun!! I don’t usually share educational information if it doesn’t pull at the heartstrings and encourage excellent care, your approach never had me second guessing!!! PREACH on you amazing professor of fun and true learning and sustainability. Eye simply LOVE it all!!!!
Dr. Root is an extraordinary teacher! I have been a Certified Orthoptist and a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist more many years. I have taught clinical skills to people of all levels in clinics, community college programs and in corporate environments. I frequently recommend TimRoot.com as a useful tool. Thanks, Dr. Root and colleagues for your well done videos!
Awesome videos and audio!
This book is amazing! Highly recommend it to everyone before their ophtho rotation!
Another resource that may be of interest to medical students is The Lens (www.lensophthalmology.com), a weekly email newsletter that provides brief summaries of recent high impact ophthalmology articles and provides links so students can read full versions of the articles that catch their interest.
To be honest, in med school, I was exhausted by the unenjoyable ophtho lecture notes. After reading his book, I found a deep interest in Opthalmology after reading his book.
